If you arrive in Whangarei earlier than 3pm, you could make your way to the Town Marina Basin where you will find galleries, museums, cafes and a lovely walking trail alongside the river. The Quarry Gardens are another option to explore, beautiful subtropical gardens where you can stroll and enjoy the huge range of plants, and trees.
On your arrival I will sit down with you and offer options for dining and suggestions of things to do in Whangarei,over a cup of tea, coffee and baking.
A delicious continental breakfast is served in the dining room consisting of fruit juice, locally made preserves, a choice of cereals and breads, warm filled croissants plus seasonal fresh fruit, yoghurt and tea or coffee. Please let us know in advance if you have allergies, prefer milk alternatives or prefer a gluten or dairy free diet.
The Ledwith Room is decorated in a contempory style and has a lovely comfortable King bed with quality linen and bedding, electric blanket, TV, ceiling fan, wardrobe, desk, ottoman & comfortable chair and an ensuite bathroom. French doors open onto a verandah which has table and chairs for guests to sit and overlook the front garden. Beyond the road and opposite our house your will find Mair Park & Parihaka Reserve.

The Parihaka Room - This room has been named after Mt Parihaka, which can be accessed from across the road at Mair Park, where there are trails to the summit. The Parihaka Room has a Super King bed with quality linen and bedding, an electric blanket, desk, TV, ceiling fan, ottoman and also has it's own ensuite, currently being redecorated during lockdown in a fresh tranquil colour picking up the green from the Bay Villa stained glass feature windows.
A 10min stroll to Kensington and you have great local restaurants to choose from including Suk Jai Thai, a favourite with our guests. A new complex in Kensington opening in April 2021 has St Pierres Sushi, Tank Juice, Sals Pizza and the popular Lone Star also a 10min stroll from Chelsea House. Alternatively a 30min walk (or 4mins in the car) through Mair Park and the Parihaka Scenic Reserve will take you to the Town Marina Basin, with cafes, iSite office, restaurants, cafes, galleries and a 4.5km Hatea Loop walk to enjoy. Two minutes walk into the town centre from the marina and you will find more dining options such as Quality Street.
Just across the road from Chelsea House is Mair Park. Situated in the Parihaka Scenic Reserve, there are walking tracks alongside the Hatea river to the Town Marina Basin, AH Reed Memorial Park and Whangarei Falls - Otuihau. For those with a moderate level of fitness you can take one of the challenging trails through the Parihaka Scenic Reserve to the summit of Mt Parihaka for spectacular panoramic views over the city and harbour. You can even see Chelsea House from the summit.
